Love Pop Choir - All Choirs
Christmas Concert With The Harrogate Band 2024
19th December 2024

What a magical evening we had performing with the Harrogate Brass Band at St Aiden's School, Harrogate.

Following last year’s success with our Harrogate choir joining forces with the band, we were inspired  to dream bigger and this year we found a larger venue to welcome more than 75 of our fabulous ladies for an unforgettable evening of music and fun.

With her husband playing in the band, it was Harrogate choir member, Libby who came up with the original idea for the collaboration and now the annual event is a firm favourite with both the Harrogate Band and Love Pop Choir.

As we waited excitedly for our performance to begin we were delighted to see the room filling up with a very large audience filing into Constance Green Hall.  Family, friends and the general public filled the seats, all keen to enjoy a wonderful festive evening.🎄

Finally it was time to get started with a joint performance of Christmas Classic Sleigh Ride setting the tone for a fun and lively evening.

Joint numbers were interspersed with Christmas favourites and sing along pop hits from Love Pop Choir and the classic sounds of Christmas brass from The Harrogate Band giving the packed audience a fabulous selection of festive entertainment.

Following some fantastic numbers from the band, it was time for us to perform two of our Christmas Favourites.

First up, the hauntingly beautiful Carol of the Bells.

Followed by the stunning O Holy Night.

More then from the band and a touching section where some up and coming young brass players entertained us, much to everyone's delight.

Our fabulous Choir Director, Lauren and Band Leader Craig did an amazing job of introducing the songs and giving a little background to the audience. Whilst Lauren also took on the role of dance instructor for The Twelve Days of Christmas, Craig's witty banter kept the audience laughing.

Lauren also had the pleasure of conducting both the band and choir for some of the joint numbers, a fantastic but rather nerve racking experience for Lauren to end the first half!

Fully refreshed after the interval, Love Pop Choir kicked off the second half with pop hit Christmas Baby Please Come Home, which caused a lively debate about the number of times our ladies sing the word 'Christmas' in the song, answers ranged from 21 to 25. I will leave you to check the lyrics out for yourself online. 😃

The wonderfully mellow Let It Snow was next up for our talented ladies.

Time for an absolute favourite for Choir Director Lauren, a joint performance of Candlelight Carol.

More wonderful Christmas brass next, as the band delighted the audience with a festival of Christmas tunes before we performed our all time choir favourite, Hallelujah.

Time then to get the audience going as we ramped up the fun with a selection of crowd pleasers for the audience to join in starting with the ever popular Fairytale of New York.

A rousing joint number next with the fabulous Christmas hit Merry Christmas Everyone by Ed Sheeran and Elton John.

We couldn't let the evening end without fantastic audience participation song The Twelve Days of Christmas.  Everyone was on their feet singing along and joining in the actions, what a great sight for us to see so many people joining in with us. A special shout out for the band's drummer who somehow managed to perform the actions in between drumming, what a talent!🥁

The wonderful night came to a close with the whole room joining in We Wish You A Merry Christmas but the band had one more trick up their sleeve. Just when we thought it was all over the band played one final number, The Scneewalzer. Band leader Craig encouraged everyone to join in as the choir and the audience swayed from side to side until we had to rise to our feet at the right place in the music. As you can imagine timing was everything and it was so funny to see people miss timing the actions!

Many thanks to our fabulous friends at The Harrogate Band, we absolutely love our annual get together and can't wait to do it all again next year!
