Love Pop Choirs Harrogate & Cookridge

Harrogate Community Choir Festival

18th March 2023

Our super talented ladies from our Harrogate and Cookridge choir groups joined together to perform at the Harrogate Community Choir Festival, raising funds for a local Knaresborough based charity. Wellspring Therapy and Training provide affordable psychological support to people in distress and promote good mental health through training and education, such a worthy cause.

What a fabulous event this was with six choirs from the local area showcasing their talents at Harrogate Theatre. We had such a great time listening to a wide range of songs and styles and of course performing for the other choirs and the general public. The venue was 'sold out' so we had a huge crowd to entertain and our ladies did it in style.

Our early afternoon rehearsal got us all very excited, such a professional set up with staging for the choirs and a stunning venue.

Some of our ladies then enjoyed a fun afternoon in Harrogate with shopping, lots of eating and just a little drinking.

Then it was back to the theatre again for our evening performance.

We sang five very different songs to show off the wide range of genres we cover and the amazing arrangements written by our very own Lauren Elliott.

First up was Umbrella by The Baseballs. A very upbeat, rockabilly version of the song which took a lot of practise to incorporate  finger clicks whilst remembering to sing at the same time, who knew how hard that could be! Our next offering was a bit of '80's cheese' with Take That's Back for Good followed by the absolutely beautiful Slipping Through My Fingers by Abba. We even made one of the event organizers cry with this one so we obviously put plenty of feeling and emotion into it. We then upped the tempo with a blast of Rock singing Alone by Heart, a real favourite amongst the choir. Our final number was the UK's 2022  Eurovision Song Contest 'almost' winner, Spaceman by Sam Ryder.

A fantastic evening was rounded off by the whole theatre singing Hey Jude by the Beatles with representatives from all six choirs taking to the stage, a truly magical and memorable moment.

Love Pop Choir Roundhay
Charity Fundraiser Concert
27th March 2023

Our gorgeous ladies from Love Pop Choir Roundhay held a charity fundraiser concert on behalf of Leeds Children's Hospital.

Friends and family enjoyed a beautiful evening of singing to raise funds for Ward 50 at the LGI Clarendon Wing. Roundhay Choir Director, Georgia, has been visiting her Godson, Lucas, on the ward and recognized that their fabulous play scheme needed new equipment.

Love Pop Choir Roundhay have raised an incredible £1500 for this very worthy cause. we are so proud of them.

The evening began with vocals from four of Georgia's University music students, followed by a fabulous set from our talented ladies. Warming up with Bella Mamma and Maliswe the concert got off to a great start. A real mix of genres followed with classics from the 80's and 90's to current chart hits, including Dua Lipa's Break My Heart, Sam Ryder's Spaceman and the fabulous Like A Prayer by Madonna. We heard some amazing solos from several of our ladies who really showed us what they can do.

An ingenious bottle raffle raised £230 with Georgia's son, Samson being delighted to win a bottle of Lynx shower gel which he thought was an energy drink!  Luckily he didn't try to drink it.

Finishing the evening Lucas's Dad gave a speech, thanking everyone for their generosity and explaining how the donations would buy several Doppler blood pressure monitors and I Pads for use by the children on the ward.

What a wonderful event, here at Love Pop Choir it makes us happy to not only spread our positivity and wonderful singing but to help others along the way.

Love Pop Choir - All Choirs
King Charles's Finest Fling Video
Week commencing Monday 1st May

Love Pop Choir went Coronation Crazy this week, making our madcap video to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles.

All six of our choir groups took a little time out of this week's practise to make a video of our ladies letting their hair down and having a good laugh. Our theme was British Royalty and The Lion King.

We used a special King Charles version of I Just Can't Wait To Be King, from Disney's Lion King, as the words seemed to fit the occasion very well. Then it was down to each of our choirs to come up with their own video and vocal recording, which was then put together to produce the video below.

There was a real mix of ideas ranging from the Coronation of our own King to a pipe playing banana, a dancing sheep, falling jungle leaves, rowing the boat and a conga! Crazy but such fun to make, hope you like it!

Love Pop Choirs Harrogate & Cookridge
King's Coronation Event
6th May 2023

Despite a rainy weather forecast, Valley Gardens Harrogate was bathed in warm sunshine as ladies from our Harrogate and Cookridge groups sang their hearts out at the King's Coronation Event.

The venue was packed with families enjoying a fun filled day of entertainment, the Little Bird Artisan Market and of course Love Pop Choir. A large crowd gathered as our fabulous ladies sang a very British mix of pop favourites including Proud by Heather Small, old favourite, Together in Electric Dreams by Moroder & Oakey and Eurovision hit Spaceman by Sam Ryder. The set closed with a King Charles themed version of I Just Can't Wait To Be King from Disney. The local radio station even dropped in to do a live recording of our choir singing A Little Respect by Erasure for their audience.

Break time gave everyone a chance to look round the artisan market and wander round the gardens to glimpse the other activities taking place. Then it was back for a second set where the audience danced and sang along in the sunshine until the lightest of raindrops began to fall at the end of the set.

It was time then for food and drink as our fabulous ladies enjoyed a slightly soggy picnic together to round off a fabulous day.

Love Pop Choirs Ilkley & Otley
Addingham Coronation Weekend
6th & 7th May 2023

What a fabulous Coronation weekend for our ladies from Love Pop Choirs Ilkley and Otley. Performing twice at the Addingham Coronation event, in beautiful sunshine, certainly put a smile on the faces of our choir and their happy audience.

Joining the wonderful 'Hummingbirds' for their performance on Saturday was a fun opportunity for our lovely ladies. Choir Directors, Georgia and Kim, are members of 'The Hummingbirds' and asked the choirs to join them. Singing a brilliant arrangement of Umbrella by The Baseballs (curtesy of choir founder Lauren Elliott) our ladies had such a great time.

Sunday was another beautiful day where our talented ladies sang two wonderful sets for the Addingham Coronation crowd. The beautiful Slipping Through My Fingers by Abba was a big hit as was Only You by Yazoo, along with many others. Such a great achievement for our choirs who worked so hard, performing 15 different songs - phew!
